The Open Science Tools course is excellent in its content and approach, but even more so in the experience and warmth of the instructors and the coordinating team. As an academic and promoter of open code and free software, it was a very enriching course that helped me expand and strengthen my knowledge and has even motivated me to get more involved in Open Science.

Recommended reading in PLOS One! A new article analyzes why researchers in Latin America struggle so much to access international funding. The study highlights real day-to-day obstacles: the language barrier, limited administrative support at our institutions, and the difficulty of building networks with the 'Global North'. I take this opportunity to congratulate MetaDocencia for their tireless work supporting Latin American science and always championing open science. That is exactly the path our region needs!

A thoroughly well-deserved recognition for MetaDocencia as a promoter of Open Science in our region through the publication of this chapter.

The Dominique Babini Prize celebrates knowledge as a common good and recognizes experiences, reflections, and practices around open science from Latin America and the Caribbean. This book brings together essays and research selected in the first edition of the prize, driven by CLACSO alongside regional and international allies. With a situated and critical perspective, the authors address global challenges of open access, cognitive justice practices, and innovative experiences that broaden the horizons of academic production.

Participating in the Catalyst project was very important for UNC Supercomputing. We learned how to navigate a funding and collaboration ecosystem that was new to us. We met others and made ourselves known; we valued and were valued within larger networks across Latin America and Africa. The plan to set up a local cloud for JupyterHub is a project that continues to progress and has great potential now and in the future.

Participating in Catalyst allowed us to test and determine the infrastructure needed for a sustainable ecosystem with trained local leaders. We confirmed that open access to this infrastructure is vital to drive local research and amplify regional scientific impact.

Working with MetaDocencia means being part of a team that is attentive, warm, diverse, and committed to its mission and people. It's no surprise that creative proposals emerge when dialogue feels natural and reassuring.

How wonderful to share what we do with open knowledge communities alongside MetaDocencia.

MetaDocencia shows that it is possible to create organizations aligned with the principles of open and collaborative science without giving up the aspiration of legitimacy within the traditional scientific system.

At the same time, initiatives such as MetaDocencia, RiaBio, and OpenCon prioritize inclusive scientific education and the creation of open educational resources in Spanish. Taken together, these initiatives have established Spanish as a pivotal medium for education, scientific outreach, and regional collaboration. While English remains indispensable for global visibility, Spanish increasingly anchors open, locally grounded science, especially in bioinformatics, where open access to cutting-edge tools, networked collaboration to share opportunities and resources, and multilingual dissemination are critical to progress.
